Shopee has come out as the most popular mobile eCommerce app in Southeast, having the most monthly active users and being the most downloaded in the third quarter of 2019, according to iPrice’s recent study done in collaboration with App Annie and SimilarWeb. It was also the most visited website during the period.
Lazada and Tokopedia came in second and third respectively. Meanwhile, Shopee and Lazada are more competitive in mobile app rankings compared to web visits, iPrice said. Despite being challenged by the likes of Tokopedia in Indonesia and Sendo in Vietnam on the webs platform, both companies still rank at the top on mobile app.
In terms of monthly active users, Lazada ranked first in four out of six countries – Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines and Thailand. Meanwhile, Shopee led in Vietnam and Indonesia, which iPrice said are projected to be the biggest markets in Southeast Asia.
Meanwhile, Bukalapak was ranked the app with the fourth highest monthly active users and fourth most visited website, while Wish was ranked the fourth most downloaded. IPrice listed Wish as the surprise of the quarter, having appeared in the top five most downloaded for the first time. According to iPrice, this showed that Wish is serious about its foray into Southeast Asia.
The study added that Southeast Asia is entering the age of shoppertainment, with Shopee, Lazada, and other major players focused on offering initiatives such as live streaming events and in-app games. These are in a bid to increase user engagement.
Most visited eCommerce sites in Southeast Asia
Separately, Lazada, Qoo10 and Shopee were ranked the top three eCommerce sites in Singapore, while Shopee, Lazada and Lelong.my came out on top in Malaysia. As for Indonesia, Tokopedia took the top spot followed by Shopee and Bukalapak.
According to iPrice, eCommerce websites in Indonesia and Vietnam earned significantly more visits than in other countries, accounting for 30.9% and 36.3% of the region’s eCommerce web traffic respectively. Compared to last year, Philippines and Thailand saw improvements in eCommerce website usage, by 1.9% and 2.2% of regional total respectively.
