PalawanPay crowns OFWs as everyday superheroes in new remittance campaign

PalawanPay has launched a new campaign with GIGIL that transforms overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) into superheroes, tapping into Filipino pop culture to dramatise the power of remittances.
The film positions remittance not merely as a financial transaction, but as an empowering act. With PalawanPay promising instant and reliable money transfers, the brand frames itself as the trusted enabler that allows OFWs to support their families anytime, anywhere in the world.
At the centre of the campaign is Marian Rivera, one of the Philippines’ most recognisable actresses and the brand’s ambassador. Rivera is widely associated with her portrayal of Darna – a Filipina superhero who transforms and gains power the moment she shouts her name.
The campaign draws directly from that cultural reference point.

Across various international settings, Filipino workers are shown going about their daily routines while staying connected with loved ones back home. The pivotal moment comes when they shout “There Na!” – a playful phrase that phonetically echoes “Darna” while also meaning “already there”. In that instant, they transform into their own versions of the superhero, donning improvised suits and gaining the powers needed to protect and provide for their families.
The wordplay encapsulates PalawanPay’s proposition: remittances delivered in split seconds, with impact that feels nothing short of superhuman.
By aligning the brand with a beloved national icon and the enduring narrative of OFWs as heroes, the campaign taps into both nostalgia and national pride. At the same time, it reinforces PalawanPay’s core promise of speed and reliability – turning a functional benefit into an emotional payoff.
The campaign was developed by GIGIL’s creative leadership, with chief creative officers Badong Abesamis and Herbert Hernandez at the helm, alongside a broader creative and account team. Production was handled by KATOK Production, directed by Kiran Koshy.
As remittance platforms compete on speed and accessibility, PalawanPay’s latest push reframes the category: not just about moving money, but about empowering the modern-day heroes who send it.
