The Malaysian-based animation studio behind animated series BoBoiboy, Papa Pipi and MechAmato, Animonsta Studios, has produced a short video to encourage the public to get vaccinated. The video features characters from the Papa Pipi series, the spin-off of the main franchise BoBoiBoy. The minute-long video titled “Papa Zola cucuk vaksin” (Papa Zola gets vaccination jab) shows the superhero Papa Zola waiting nervously for his turn at the vaccination centre (PPV).

His daughter, Pipi Zola, encourages him to get over his fear of needles. He eventually musters his courage for the well-being of his family and proceeds with the vaccination. The short also features a cameo from Tok Aba, the grandfather of BoBoiBoy. The video seems to be gaining traction online as it garnered more than two million views in the past week at the time of writing.

Quoting Faiz Zainal Aabidin, the company's head of international brand and sales, Bernama reported that as a brand synonymous with family messages and protecting loved ones from enemy threats, Monsta responded to the government’s call for the public to get vaccinated under the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme. The video ran on local TV stations and an Indonesian TV channel. A+M has reached out to Monsta for additional information.

The company also released a public service video titled “Duduk Rumah Diam-Diam! Jauhi Covid-19!!!” (Sit at home quietly! Stay away from COVID-19!!) as well as a two-minute song “Ayuh Cuci Tangan!” (Time to wash our hands!) featuring the characters from Papa Pipi in 2020, with each video having more than 1.5 million and 4 million views respectively.

Monsta is not the first company to have called on Malaysians to get vaccinated. Last month, streaming platform iQIYI International tied up with Malaysia's COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force to hand out about RM1.5 million worth of iQIYI VIP subscriptions to Malaysians nationwide who have been vaccinated. This is part of the “iQiyi Bersama Rakyat Malaysia (iQiyi with Malaysians)” programme, and iQIYI hopes to do its part in driving the registration and average attendance rate through advocacy and reward-based initiatives nationwide.

Across the border, the Singapore government also witnessed success with its "Get Your Shot, Steady Pom Pi Pi" vaccination video featuring iconic character Phua Chu Kang. Done in collaboration with Tribal Worldwide Singapore and launched in May, the two-minute music video garnered international praise for its uniqueness and creativity. It currently has more than 1.5 million YouTube views.

Separately, Match Group-owned dating app, BLK, also tied up with New Orleans rapper Juvenile to refresh the lyrics of his two-decades-old classic track “Back That Thang Up”, multiple media outlets including The Guardian said. The video titled "Vax That Thang Up" was released on 6 July and has more than 3.1 million YouTube views currently. It includes lyrics such as “Girl, you can be the queen, aftеr quarantine” and “Before you find a date, gotta go vaccinate”. According to CNBC, BLK worked with ad agency Majority co-owned by former NBA player Shaquille O’Neal. Aside from BLK, other dating apps under Match Group include Tinder and Hinge.
