Sunway Lagoon gives STEM learning a pit stop makeover

Sunway Lagoon is expanding its edutainment offering with the launch of the "Sunway tiny experience factory" (STEF), a new attraction designed to blend immersive entertainment with STEM learning through a hands-on miniature vehicle manufacturing experience.

Located within Sunway Lagoon, the attraction spans approximately 189 square metres across six themed rooms and is positioned as Southeast Asia's first experience to recreate both 'Completely knocked down' (CKD) and 'Completely built-up' (CBU) miniature vehicle assembly journeys. The initiative aims to engage families, students, hobbyists and collectors through interactive learning while offering a personalised souvenir experience.

Inspired by a real automotive assembly plant, STEF places visitors at the centre of the manufacturing process, allowing them to build and customise their own miniature Mini Cooper model. Guests can choose between the CKD and CBU production routes before progressing through activities including robotic-assisted manufacturing, hands-on assembly, UV printing and personalised laser engraving of licence plates.

The experience concludes with visitors receiving a customised miniature vehicle alongside a personalised STEF driving licence and certificate.

The CKD workshop focuses on manual assembly, giving participants the opportunity to construct a miniature vehicle from individual components, including the body, interior and undercarriage, before selecting one of three roof designs and adding a personalised licence plate.

Meanwhile, the CBU workshop takes guests through an automated production journey inspired by modern manufacturing. Across 10 interactive stations, visitors experience processes such as die casting, spray painting, injection moulding, robotic component handling, automated assembly, UV printing and laser engraving, highlighting the role of robotics and precision engineering in vehicle production.

Beyond entertainment, the attraction has been designed to introduce STEM concepts through experiential learning, encouraging visitors to explore how engineering, creativity and technology intersect within modern manufacturing.

With demand for educational attractions continuing to grow among families, STEF adds a new experiential offering to Sunway Lagoon's portfolio while reinforcing the broader trend of attractions that combine play with hands-on learning.

“STEF reflects our commitment to creating immersive experiences that combine entertainment, creativity and education in meaningful ways. By allowing guests to experience modern manufacturing first-hand, we hope to inspire curiosity, encourage innovation and make STEM learning engaging for visitors of all ages," said Sunway Lagoon in a statement.

It added, "Beyond the experience itself, STEF encourages guests to become active creators rather than observers, leaving with not only a personalised miniature vehicle, but also a greater appreciation for how technology and creativity come together in the world around us."

The launch comes as Sunway Lagoon continues to invest in immersive, experience-led attractions. In June, the theme park unveiled a refreshed SCREAM PARK, headlined by "The (Not-So) Wonderful Wizard of Oz", a darker reimagining of L. Frank Baum's classic novel.

To support the launch, Sunway Lagoon rolled out a multi-channel marketing campaign spanning media outreach, social-first content, influencer partnerships and on-ground activations, underscoring its broader push to strengthen its experiential tourism offering for both local and international visitors.
