Shopee sets sights on Spain after Poland expansion

Southeast Asia eCommerce platform, Shopee is looking to grow its presence in Spain with the launch of a new Instagram page, @shopee_es. According to its latest post on the Instagram page, Shopee Spain will start its operations from 12 October and it would offer free shipping to Spain. MARKETING-INTERACTIVE understands that its expansion into Europe is still in the early stages and that Shopee is still testing the waters. Sea Group has declined to comment.

Shopee's strategy to enter the Spanish market came shortly after it announced its expansion plans into Poland. Last month, Southeast Asian eCommerce and gaming firm Sea planned to raise US$6.3 billion in a share and convertible bond sale. Citing its sources, Reuters said the move is Shopee's first expansion into the European eCommerce scene. Its gaming unit Garena is currently active in Europe, and at the same time, Shopee also plans to launch in Argentina, said Reuters quoting its sources.

Meanwhile, Shopee also made headlines last month when it was reported that the eCommerce firm is eyeing an expansion into India with a recruitment campaign. 

Separately, Shopee launched its "Shopee Mall Brand Memberships", a new customer management and retention tool that enables brands on Shopee Mall to build deeper connections with potential and existing customers. Shopee Mall Brand Memberships allows brands to identify and manage different customer segments through data analysis of customers’ profiles, purchasing habits, and preferences.

According to Shopee, it will be progressively rolling out a pipeline of new features to enhance the membership programme. Brands would be to able integrate their offline and online CRM systems and loyalty programmes with Shopee Mall Brand Memberships. The tool has been rolled out across seven markets: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
