MONOPOLY has rolled out a Kuala Lumpur edition, turning the capital’s most recognisable landmarks and neighbourhoods into a collectible board game experience. The launch at KL International Airport marks an early milestone for the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign and positions KL as a destination worth exploring, one square at a time.
Developed by Winning Moves UK under license from Hasbro, the new edition transforms some of the city’s most iconic spots into playable property tiles. Petronas Twin Towers, Merdeka Square, Bukit Bintang, Kampung Baru, Jalan Alor and Chinatown all feature on the board, alongside cultural and lifestyle touchpoints that reflect KL’s identity.
Jennifer Lau, partnerships manager at Winning Moves, shared with A+M that interest began with retailer demand. “Winning Moves had interest from our retailers for a KL Monopoly, so we approached Tourism Malaysia about this idea. It fit in perfectly with their Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign so they were very excited from the start,” she said.

Tourism Malaysia director general, Manoharan Periasamy, said the collaboration creates a new way for travellers to experience KL. The edition is designed to appeal to both locals and tourists, offering a playful introduction to the city’s diversity and heritage.
Beyond landmarks, the board also incorporates local partners to reflect KL’s lifestyle ecosystem. Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park, Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, Kapten Batik and Alice Smith School all make appearances. KLIA features as a property and served as the venue for the launch, supported by Malaysia Airports.
Malaysia Airports has also introduced an exclusive travel sized MONOPOLY: Kuala Lumpur edition, redeemable by travellers who spend a minimum of RM800 at KLIA Terminal 1 or 2. The airport group is further extending the collaboration through a festive campaign titled “Christmas with MONOPOLY: Don’t Pass GO on the Festive Magic,” which includes performances, activities and a holiday pop up store across KLIA, PEN, LGK, BKI and KCH.
The edition’s Chance and Community Chest cards include KL themed twists, from supporting heritage preservation to earning a shopping spree. AIA Malaysia also features on the MONOPOLY money and special cards as part of the partnership.
On curating the board’s locations, Lau said the challenge was narrowing down the list. “KL is full of wonderful places and whilst we’d love to be able to include it all, it’s impossible. We wanted to integrate cultural elements, food elements, shopping and everything that KL is. We hope this final edition gives you a taste of KL and leaves you wanting to discover more,” she said.
Lau added that MONOPOLY’s long history of regional editions made it a natural fit for tourism storytelling. “MONOPOLY is a wonderful family bonding experience and one that connects people around the world. To bring it in as a way to introduce local tourism and help people reminisce on family memories is something we always hope is cherished.”
The MONOPOLY: Kuala Lumpur edition is now available at leading toy retailers including Toys R Us, BookXcess, MPH Bookstore, Kinokuniya, Tsutaya, Twigs and more. The exclusive travel sized edition will be available only through Malaysia Airports.
In May, in celebration of its 90th anniversary, the iconic board game Monopoly rolled the dice on nostalgia and local flair. Hasbro unveiled a brand-new classic Monopoly Malaysia edition, complete with modern visuals, bigger tokens and landmarks unique to the country.
Alongside the refreshed local board, the company has also released three creative expansion packs designed to turn game night into a whirlwind of chaos, crime and cash, Hasbro shared in a statement. The new classic edition celebrated Monopoly’s longstanding global success, which includes more than 275 million copies sold across 103 countries. Translated into 47 languages, the game has become a cultural mainstay for generations.
