Streaming platform Netflix has plans to roll out a new Top 10 feature, which will allow users to see which shows and films are the most popular in their respective countries. According to Cameron Johnson, director of product innovation, the feature will come in a form of a row, and will be updated every day. The position of the row will depend on how relevant the shows are to the users as well.

Shows and films that make it to the Top 10 lists will be labelled with a “Top 10” badge, which allows users to see which shows and films are most popular even when they are browsing by genre, their personal list, or through the search function. According to Johnson, Netflix has been experimenting with the top 10 lists in Mexico and the UK for the last six months, and have decided to roll it out to even more markets since members have found it useful.

Reuters reported that the Top 10 feature reflects a trend where Netflix is increasingly being more transparent about how the performance of its shows and films. Marketing has asked Netflix additional information.

Netflix has been reaching out to its users in innovative ways. Last month, it collaborated with ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s to create a new flavour called “Netflix and Chilll’d”, playing on the cultural slang that it has become associated with. As part of the campaign, users are also recommended various Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavours that goes well with Netflix Originals shows. Netflix has also reached out to younger users with its collaboration with Nickelodeon last year. With this partnership, Nickelodeon will be producing original animated feature films and television series based on its library of characters for kids and families around the world.
