Missed the cherry blossoms? Klook might refund you

Klook is offering travellers refunds if they miss cherry blossom blooms in Japan and South Korea, in a move aimed at easing concerns over the unpredictability of seasonal travel.
The experiences platform said it is the first travel platform to introduce such a feature through its “Bloom back guarantee”, which provides a 30% refund if blossoms fail to bloom during the official forecast period. The guarantee is available as an add-on to selected cherry blossom experiences in both destinations.
The initiative targets travellers planning spring getaways, a period when cherry blossom viewing remains one of the main attractions across North Asia.

To submit a claim, travellers must provide a clear timestamped photo taken during the tour and file a request within 10 days of participation. For a limited time, travellers can secure the guarantee at no additional cost by applying the code “FREEBLOOMBACK” when booking eligible tours.
According to Klook, the guarantee was developed based on insights from its Spring Readiness Index, a survey of 900 travellers across nine Asian markets including Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan and India. The survey found that North Asia remains a key spring destination for Singapore travellers, with Japan ranking as the top choice for spring travel at 61%, followed by Mainland China at 45% and South Korea at 37%.
However, practical concerns continue to shape travel behaviour. Around half of respondents said they worry about higher prices and limited ticket availability during peak periods, while 34% said they were concerned about missing peak seasonal moments due to unpredictable bloom periods.
The findings also indicate that Singapore travellers are keeping their plans flexible. About 62% of respondents said they intend to book spring activities, tours and attractions within two months of departure, suggesting a relatively short booking window to respond to changing bloom forecasts.
Travellers are also taking a more balanced approach when planning their trips. About 35% said they prefer itineraries that combine major cities with less-visited destinations, while 28% plan to stay in urban hubs and explore nearby areas through day trips. At the same time, 46% said they are leaning towards slower travel, opting to spend more time in fewer destinations for a deeper experience.

Klook’s March to April 2025 data also points to growing interest in emerging destinations. In Japan, these include Fukuoka, Sapporo and Nagoya. In South Korea, travellers are increasingly exploring Gangwon-do, Gyeonggi-do and Gyeongju, while in Mainland China, Lijiang, Chengdu and Guangzhou are gaining traction.
Alongside the guarantee, Klook is rolling out daily promotions offering savings of up to SG$80 across different destinations throughout the week. These include deals for Japan on Mondays, Mainland China on Tuesdays and South Korea on Wednesdays, as well as discounts on tours, activities and hotels later in the week.
The platform is also expanding its line-up of curated seasonal experiences through partnerships with local merchants. This includes an exclusive collaboration with Everland, South Korea’s largest theme park, where travellers can book Klook-exclusive tours that include access to the park’s Secret Garden for cherry blossom viewing.
Two tour options are available, including a daytime visit and a night experience that concludes with a fireworks show. Both tours will be led by guides who will bring travellers to less-frequented viewing spots. Bookings opened on 10 March, with bloom visits expected between 6 and 24 April, subject to bloom conditions.
“Spring travel continues to be a big moment for Singapore travelers, especially with cherry blossom season on the horizon. While excitement is high, we also know travelers want greater certainty when planning around such a time-sensitive window," said Sarah Wan, general manager, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand at Klook.
She added, "With the 'Bloom back guarantee', we are giving travelers an extra boost of confidence to plan ahead with ease and flexibility, so every spring journey feels smooth, rewarding and full of memorable moments.”
The move follows Klook’s broader push to help travellers navigate the complexities of spring travel across North Asia. Last month, the company launched a search for a “chief spring officer”, a time-bound role created to guide travellers through the peak bloom season in Japan, South Korea and Mainland China. The position was introduced as spring travel continues to face challenges such as shifting cherry blossom windows, unpredictable weather and heavy crowds.
The chief spring officer will provide live insights during the peak bloom season, translating on-ground experiences into travel guidance, recommendations and curated content to help travellers plan their trips more easily.
