L'Oréal has named Junaid Murtaza (pictured) as the new president director of its Indonesia business. He has taken over the role from Umesh Phadke, who recently became chief transformation officer at L’Oreal SAPMENA-SSA. According to L'Oréal Indonesia, his appointment will be effective from September 2022 and he will be reporting to Phadke.

L'Oréal Indonesia is unable to confirmMARKETING-INTERACTIVE's further queries about Murtaza at the time of writing.

Prior to his current role, he was country managing director and CEO of L’Oreal Pakistan for three years. He also previously held the role of GM of the consumer products division. Murtaza has also worked as zone marketing director for Africa Middle East out of L’Oreal’s global head quarters in Paris. He first started in the organisation in 2013 within the marketing team, climbing the ranks from manager to director. Prior to his time at L’Oreal he was with Unilever for over five years in numerous marketing and branding roles in Pakistan.

In recent times L’Oreal has made several notable hires in its teams, and undergone a fair bit of shuffle in its marketing teams. Earlier this year it appointed Abhishek Grover as its chief digital officer, consumer products division, for the South Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa (SAPMENA) region. Meanwhile, Vincent Ruaz, the deputy director, brand and digital marketing for M1 has left to join L'Oréal as chief digital and marketing officer, media director, North Asia overseeing the whole portfolio of brands covering China, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Closer to home in Singapore and Malaysia, the company decided to join forces in the two markets. A spokesperson told MARKETING-INTERACTIVE the joining of forces will enable the company to "prepare for the future and best position [it] to tap new opportunities" emerging from the shifts in the rapidly transforming beauty landscape.

L'Oréal also just recently announced that it would open a new, state-of-the-art Research & Innovation (R&I) Center in  New Jersey, replacing its existing facilities that it has occupied in the area for more than six decades. The US$140 million development project represents the most significant investment in an R&I facility in the company's history. The new R&I Center will strengthen L'Oréal's capacity to advance the scientific and technological research behind the products and services aimed at meeting the diverse beauty expectations of consumers worldwide. The R&I Center will focus on beauty innovations across the spectrum of hair, skin, and makeup categories.
