Korean eatery chain MyeongDong Topokki in MY 'cooks up' NFTs

Korean restaurant chain in Malaysia, MyeongDong Topokki has leveraged the blockchain technology, releasing 1,000 pieces of NFTs that are available for purchase at Opensea. With this strategy, the restaurant aims to encourage sustainable consumer attention and engagement, said The Star. According to the article, MyeongDong Toppoki's foray into NFT was highly anticipated as the restaurant chain views this as part of its strategy to position itself as a leading technology firm in the food and beverage scene.

Additionally, the restaurant chain is working on collaborating with NFT artists in Malaysia to roll out limited pieces of NFT art, said the article. A+M has reached out to MyeongDong Topokki for additional information regarding its strategy for NFT collaborations.

Parent company Cravito Group's founder and CEO, Vincent Lua said in the article that while NFT is relatively a very new concept especially in Malaysia, Cravito Group is always looking for innovative ideas to enhance MyeongDong Topokki customer’s engagement. 

Meanwhile, in Malaysia, artist Red Hong Yi has added five new exclusive artworks to her NFT Memebank Banknotes series which can also be purchased in OpenSea. Inspired by world currencies and the contemporary meme culture in the digital world, Yi's Banknotes series are a spoof on dollar bills with the latest redesigns covering Malaysian Ringgit, Singapore Dollar, China Yuan, Japanese Yen, United States Dollar, and British Pound. 

Similarly, Malaysian singer Namewee has created and released his own NFTs. According to the artist in his latest YouTube video, "Using NFTs to Fight the World", the idea of opening an NFT account was "to counter the intermediaries" and secure ownerships of items such as art. What stood out to Namewee in NFT, was how the content was safe from censorship, where no authority, including himself, had any right to the content sold once someone owns it. 

In conjunction with the theme of using NFT as a stand against the world order, the artist took 20 pictures of him making rude gestures at banking cooperations and commercial enterprises. These pictures were then uploaded on his NFT channel and were sold out within three hours.

Separately, SmartStudy, the creator of Baby Shark and brand Pinkfong, has joined forces with digital art marketplace MarkersPlace to launch the Baby Shark NFT collection this December. Titled "Baby Shark: Collection No. 1", the NFT series will offer both unique and limited edition pieces. It will also feature Baby Shark and his family in original, loopable animations that are accompanied by audio that references the song.
