Fried chicken chain, KFC has launched the Burger P. Ramlee, a tribute to Tan Sri P. Ramlee. P.Ramlee or Teuku Zakaria was a figure in the Malay entertainment industry. Wearing multiple hats, Ramlee was recognised as an actor, director, composer, and singer.

According to KFC, Ramlee remains as a lovable icon who captured the heart of all Malaysians even to this day. Playing to one of his favourite dishes, the Nasi Kandar, which was mentioned in his latest film Laksamana Do Re Mi,  KFC decided to infuse ingredients from the dish to its Hot and Spicy Zinger burger. The Nasi Kandar is a northern Malaysian dish that originates from Penang.

"Ramlee was a talented visionary who left behind a rich legacy in Malaysian culture that still resonates and is beloved by all," said KFC Malaysia's CMO, Chan May Ling.

With the innovative menu of combining the Zinger and Ramlee's favourite dish, KFC celebrates his legacy with a humble tribute to the legendary leader, added Chan. A+M has reached out to KFC Malaysia for additional information regarding the launch.

Ramlee first rose to fame when he directed his first film, Penarik Beca which placed him in the spotlight of the entertainment scene in Malaysia. He has also an estimated of more than 350 songs to his credit.

After his death in May 1973, a gallery museum has been constructed in Penang in his memory. The museum housed many of his iconic works, which was considered to be the classics of Malay cinema.

Separately, KFC Malaysia recently surprised a customer, Darryl Ezreen who ordered its three-piece signature combo by not only fulfilling his order but writing him a balas pantun (poem response). According to screenshots circulating online, Ezreen wrote the poem for the fried chicken chain under the delivery request section.

This is not the first time KFC has decided to get creative around its business model. In August this year, KFC Singapore celebrated National Day with an exclusive streetwear capsule collection in collaboration with home-grown fashion designer Amos Yeo. Titled “STATE: ORIGINAL”, the collection draws inspiration from KFC’s “Always Original” brand positioning. According to KFC, this marks the first partnership between a quick-service restaurant and local fashion designer in Singapore.

KFC Malaysia also previously launched a streetwear collection, in partnership with Pestle and Mortar Clothing (PMC) during 2019's Malaysia Day. CMO Angelina Villanueva said then that Malaysia had been KFC’s home for more than 46 years and it wanted to do something out of the ordinary to celebrate Malaysia and KFC’s heritage in the country. The collection included a t-shirt featured Colonel Sanders in a sarong with the caption "Who's your atuk (grandfather)?" and a hoodie with trilingual taglines of the "finger lickin' good" slogan, among others.
