Huawei Technologies has picked Wavemaker to manage regional media duties, Marketing understands. This comes following a pitch held earlier this year which cut across markets such as Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. Wavemaker declined to comment on Marketing‘s queries. Marketing has reached out to Huawei for comment. The pitch was said to be led out of Malaysia as it is the company’s hub. Vizeum and Dentsu X were the incumbents for Malaysia and Singapore respectively. The appointment comes as Huawei continues to push ahead fearlessly amidst the extended trade war between US and China. According to multiple media reports, Huawei said its 5G business has remained unimpacted by US trade sanctions. Quoting deputy chairman Ken Hu, media reports said that the company has already invested US$4 billion into 5G and its investment strategy “will not change” in the next stage.Meanwhile despite the trade ban, chip makers in the US are still selling products to Huawei, the New York Times reported. Quoting its sources, NYT said that companies such as Intel and Micron have circumvented the labelling of its goods as American-made. Media reports also said that Intel and Microsoft will continue supporting Huawei laptops amidst the trade ban.(Photo courtesy: 123RF)Read also:How the US ban on Huawei will impact marketing and agency partnerships in SEAGoogle stops Huawei’s access to Android updatesHuawei marketing staff behind New Year iPhone PR gaffe faces disciplinary actionHuawei found to be tweaking phones’ performances to ace benchmark scores
