Venture capital firm East Ventures has appointed Avina Sugiarto as a partner at the firm. Sugiarto (pictured) joined East Ventures earlier this year helming the role of venture partner, with 12 years of experience in investing across alternative assets including venture capital, private equity, private credit, and special situations across industries comprising technology, property, logistics, natural resources, consumer and financial services.

Previously, Sugiarto was SVP at asset management firm Indies Capital Partners, where she was responsible for deal sourcing, analysis, execution, and fundraising across firm investment products. She was also a key member of its investment partnership with global alternative investment firm, Värde Partners, headquartered in the United States.

According to East Ventures, Sugiarto has contributed to its commitment towards sustainability, where she played a part in its initiatives such as the signing of the Principles for Responsible Investment supported by the United Nations, Women with Impact Forum, and the inaugural Sustainability Report.

Willson Cuaca, co-founder and managing partner of East Ventures, said: ”During her work as venture partner, Avina has promptly demonstrated a robust understanding and broad experience in both investment and sustainability framework. As a Partner, Avina will work across both seed and growth team, supporting our portfolios and founders in this fast-paced tech industry while holding on strong with our core values.”

Separately, just last month, East Ventures took on sponsorship of the Indonesia Open. "Through the East Ventures Indonesia Open 2022 tournament, we hope to support the enthusiasm and development of badminton sports achievements in Indonesia, and we wish this international sport activity to run smoothly," said Roderick Purwana, managing partner of East Ventures.

Meanwhile in May, it raised a total of US$550 million in the final close of its latest funds to focus on Indonesia and Southeast Asia startups. According to East Ventures, it experienced significant growth in its portfolio, with more than 200 portfolios from seed to growth stages.
