Blue Bottle brings Finnish coffee culture to HK with Marimekko partnership

Global specialty coffee brand Blue Bottle Coffee has partnered with Finnish design house Marimekko to celebrate the rich heritage of Finnish coffee culture. The collaboration unfolds through immersive cafe installations, a limited-edition latte that captures the flavours of Finland’s korvapuusti also known as Finnish cinnamon roll, and a range of exclusive merchandise, spanning from printed textiles to elegant coffee accessories.

In a conversation with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, Blue Bottle's spokesperson said the objective of this collaboration is to create a meaningful, limited-time experience that brings together two craft-driven brands through coffee and design. Rooted in Finland's rich coffee culture, the campaign celebrates slowing down and savouring daily moments-through a limited edition latte, immersive cafe installations, and thoughtfully designed merchandise. "Our goal is to invite guests to experience coffee with intention, care and a sense of joy--whether in our cafes or at home."

This collaboration reflects a shared ethos between the two brands: the belief that craftsmanship, design, and ritual can transform the ordinary into something extraordinary. Echoing this philosophy, Finland coffee tradition highlights an appreciation for slow, deliberate moments, where quality and craftsmanship take precedence over speed and convenience.

From 25 April to 16 May, the Blue Bottle Coffee Wan Chai store transforms into an art space featuring Marimekko’s iconic Unikko pattern, a powerful emblem of joy and creativity, inviting all to take a break and experience coffee in this immersive environment. These installations complement the architectural elegance of Blue Bottle cafes, creating spaces where guests can sit, enjoy beautifully crafted coffee “for here,” and find joy in everyday rituals.

As part of the collaboration, Blue Bottle Coffee has offered thoughtfully designed pieces that bring artistry and care to daily coffee rituals. The collection includes an elegant tumbler, coffee mug, espresso cup and saucer, coffee spoon, tote bag, and apron (exclusive to Asia), featuring Marimekko’s Unikko print in a limited-edition colourway of Nordic Green and Blue Bottle’s signature blue, created exclusively for this collaboration. All textiles in the collection have been printed at Marimekko’s own textile printing factory in Helsinki, Finland.

The Marimekko x Blue Bottle Coffee collaboration launches globally across selected Blue Bottle Coffee cafes in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Tokyo, Fukuoka, Seoul, New York and Los Angeles.

Targeting design enthusiasts, particularly fans of Marimekko; coffee lovers who seek high-quality, craft-driven experiences and lifestyle-driven consumers who embrace products that enhance everyday rituals and moments of joy, the collaboration centres on "The Art of Everyday Rituals," highlighting the shared values of craftsmanship, creativity, and intentionality that unite both brands. The marketing strategy focuses on creating a multi-sensory experience that invites guests to slow down and savour small, meaningful moments—whether in Blue Bottle cafés or at home, and connect with Finnish coffee culture. 

Apart from the immersive cafe installations featuring Marimekko’s iconic Unikko pattern and the Marimekko Latte inspired by the traditional Finnish korvapuusti, there is also exclusive merchandise with Marimeko's Unikko print in an exclusive colourway that extends the experience beyond the café.

The collection is also available online, ensuring accessibility for a global community of coffee and design lovers. Together, the physical and digital touchpoints build a campaign that transforms everyday rituals through the intersection of craft and design. The collaboration is amplified through café experience, limited-edition beverages and products, and social media such as Instagram.
