Zurich Insurance and YAS unveil AI-powered rewards scheme for HK taxis

Zurich Insurance (Hong Kong) has partnered with YAS Insurance to launch an innovative, rewards-based motor insurance programme for eligible EV and electric hybrid taxi drivers in Hong Kong.
This brings together Zurich’s insurance expertise with YAS’s AI-powered Insurtech solutions to deliver a safer, smarter, and improved mobility experience that benefits everyone across Hong Kong.
Under the partnership, Zurich will introduce a three-tier insurance programme, powered by YAS’s TAXY platform, which uses AI-assisted pattern learning to deliver a transparent scoring system that tracks individual driving behavior. This ensures that drivers who prioritise safety are rewarded - including insurance protection that covers themselves, their property and their family – dependent on tier.
Eligible drivers in the programme will be provided with personal accident coverage, with additional coverage and benefits being offered to those who qualify for higher safety tiers – such as coverage for the driver’s properties for those in the second tier, and personal accident coverage to the driver’s family members in the third.
The goal is to incentivise all taxi drivers to adopt safer practices, creating a ripple effect that raises industry standards and benefits the broader community. As drivers adopt safer habits, everyone on the road benefits, from passengers and pedestrians to fellow motorists, with fewer accidents and smoother journeys.
The partnership is a shared commitment to improve the taxi industry and build a safer, more sustainable Hong Kong for everyone, aligned with the government’s initiatives. By harnessing YAS’s TAXY platform, which leverages AI-driven driver monitoring and real-time data analytics, the partnership will help taxi fleets transition to more sustainable mobility and higher performance.
Using government-required in-vehicle cameras and YAS’ mobile app, driving patterns can be tracked in real-time and integrated with Hong Kong traffic data. This enables instant traffic alerts and smart route optimisation, helping drivers avoid high-risk areas and making every journey safer for passengers.
These technologies help drivers maximise their time and earnings, boosting fleet efficiency. For everyone in Hong Kong, this translates to safer, smoother, and more reliable rides—enhancing the daily commute for all.
Eric Hui (pictured middle), CEO of Zurich Insurance (Greater China), said, " Hong Kong’s taxis are the heartbeat of our city’s dynamic economy, connecting communities and powering daily life. Through this partnership with YAS Insurance, we hope to play a part in modernising the taxi industry. More importantly, this reflects our commitment to supporting taxi drivers with protection that not only safeguards their livelihoods but also contributes to a more sustainable and resilient transport ecosystem."
William Lee (pictured right), co-founder of YAS, said, “Our vision at YAS is to make every taxi ride in Hong Kong and beyond safer for both drivers and passengers through real-time risk assessment and smarter use of data. Partnering with Zurich allows us to raise service standards, improve fleet efficiency, and bring greater peace of mind on the roads. This program will keep evolving, with new incentives, rewards, and partnerships — from e-commerce to electric charging — to strengthen the entire taxi ecosystem and set the stage for wider adoption.”
