Y&R Singapore has appointed Shirley Tay as CEO, Marketing understands.
Tay (pictured) was most recently managing director at the Australia-based creative agency ZOO group and helped build the office from scratch. ZOO Singapore is ZOO group’s fifth creative agency and its first outfit in Southeast Asia and started up locally in 2015.
Prior to that, Tay was managing director of Ogilvy & Mather Singapore. Key account wins under her tenure included the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youths for SG50, BMW Asia and Prudential. She held the role of MD at Ogilvy & Mather for over two years and had been with the agency for over 15 years holding various roles.
Notably, she led the Health Promotion Board’s “I Quit” integrated campaign.
In her new capacity, Tay reports to Matthew Godfrey, president Y&R Asia. Godfrey said:
“I find it really inspiring that Tay took the opportunity to be entrepreneurial and build a new business. Such commitment and courage is a spirit we like to embrace, definitely one of ‘Resist The Usual’. She brings to Y&R a unique combination of creative and strategic skills honed at Ogilvy, plus the start-up energy and drive that she applied at Zoo.”
Most recently, Y&R Singapore was led by Melvin Kuek who was in the role for over four years. Before that he was chief client officer at Y&R. Kuek is now the MD of DDB Singapore.
