Star Media Group brings news to commuters via digital OOH billboards

Star Media Group (SMG) has tied up with advertising media company Visual Retale to flash daily trending news headlines on digital outdoor boards at three locations in the Klang Valley. The digital outdoor boards are located at Jalan Maarof in Bangsar, The Pinnacle along the Federal Highway, and KL South on the Old Klang Road.

The news headings will be broadcast in 15-minute intervals from 8 am to 8.15 am and from 6 pm to 6.15 pm, and the news will come from key sections from The Star such as Nation, Asean+, StarBiz and Bizweek. SMG said it hopes to provide commuters in Klang Valley with a chance to read important news during peak traffic hours with this initiative. A+M has reached out for additional information.

Andreas Vogiatzakis, CEO of SMG, said the initiative extends the presence of SMG in the three locations, and is a natural addition to the group’s omni-channel presence. He added that besides showing SMG's evolution in the digital age, the new platform helps its clients and partners to reach a wider audience, providing more value to them.

“Our team at SMG is only getting stronger, as we innovate on more creative ways to bring value to our loyal audiences and to our partners. It was refreshing to see our idea be embraced and come alive with the fruitful partnership with Visual Retale,” Vogiatzakis added

Sailendra Kanagasundram, Visual Retale CEO, said it is pleased to bring real dynamism to OOH advertising with SMG. He added that the new platform transforms out-of-home landscape, bringing print and digital together.

Last year, SMG saw a dip in print and radio revenue as ad spend slides. SMG posted a revenue of RM82.57 million during the first quarter of 2019 (Q1 2019), a dip from its RM109.1 million in 2018. Its profit before tax for Q1 2019 also dropped from RM17.59 million in 2018 to RM5.71 million due to lower revenue from its print and radio segments.
