SKITTLES partners with Audible and GLAAD to increase visibility of queer community

SKITTLES has collaborated with audio storytelling platform, Audible to make LGBTQ+ stories more accessible to its consumers as part of its efforts to support and increase visibility for the LGBTQ+ community.

Along with Audible, SKITTLES will also be partnering with GLAAD as well as actor and comedian Cameron Esposito to curate special Pride edition episodes of her QUEERY podcast which will highlight the individual stories of the five artists who designed the 2023 SKITTLES Pride packs.

Gabrielle Wesley, the chief marketing officer at Mars Wrigley North America said that the SKITTLES brand aims to uplift and provide visibility to the LGBTQ+ community through its collaborations.

This is part of efforts made by SKITTLES over the years to promote LGBTQ+ awareness in consumers. Earlier in May, SKITTLES unveiled five unique colourful Pride packs designed by artists within the LGBTQ+ community.

"SKITTLES’ mission this year to spotlight LGBTQ+ stories is a profound initiative that can maximise awareness, support and acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community while advancing diversity and inclusion,” said Melissa Harris, vice president of strategic partnerships at GLAAD.

An increasing number of brands have also been rallying to produce content that clearly communicates their support of the LGBTQ+ community now that we have entered Pride month.

This Pride month, Adidas released a new collaboration with queer South African designer Rich Mnisi for Pride 2023 in an attempt to celebrate allyship and freedom of expression without bias in sports and culture.

The collection, which features a range of lifestyle and performance apparel as well as footwear, was inspired by a love letter Mnisi wrote to his younger self, in which he declares Let Love Be Your Legacy - serving as his mission statement, but also a rallying cry for active allyship to empower and champion the LGBTQIA+ community.

Calvin Klein also got in on the action with a campaign video starring queer actors Amandla Stenberg and Brandon Flynn for its 2023 “This Is Love” apparel collection. The campaign, interestingly enough, was shot entirely in black and white, a break from the bold and colourful campaigns we have seen thus far.

Using the tagline "celebrate pride in fluid pieces to style with anything”, the apparel collection is a sleek take on pride as it utilises colour blocks and bold colours in its gym wear, clothing and accessories.
