Riot Games puts SEA spin to 'Pentakill' in new film with gaming creators

Shortly after it released the League of Legends: Wild Rift Open Beta, Riot Games is coming in hot with a short film featuring some of Southeast Asia's top gaming creators, as an ode to the region's players.

Titled "Pentaboom", the film features cameos from Singapore's Jianhao Tan, Danial Ron and Sylvia Chan; Malaysia's Soloz; Taiwan's BeBe; Indonesia's Jess No Limit; Thailand's ZBingZ; Vietnam's Do Mixi; and the Philippines' Alodia Gosiengfiao. Its latest spot is a call for gamers to seize the moment and forge their own legends with crazy outplays. The film is inspired by the iconic and hard-earned "Pentakill", which is achieved when a player defeats all five of his or her enemy team's opponents in a short timespan.

Scenes in the film were shot across Southeast Asia, each putting a novel spin on situations that are familiar to local audiences. For example, Ezreal and Garen cosplayers are seen duelling it out at Singapore's Marina Bay, and the scene transitions to PentaBatik, a playful take on traditional Indonesian batik art. Meanwhile in other scenes, Pentaboom transcends into Southeast Asian food culture with Penta-Boba Milk Tea, Penta-Banh Mi and Nasi Lemak "PentaBoom".

The film was directed by Freeflow Productions' Roslee Yusof and produced alongside Riot Southeast Asia’s agency partner BBH Singapore. The agency was appointed its creative partner in September and was tasked to build a global campaign for the game release, including development of the launch strategy, player journey and creative platform.

Justin Hulog, GM for Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau at Riot Games, said Southeast Asia was the first region globally to play Wild Rift, and it wanted to celebrate that.

"We are excited to have been able to produce this short film with some incredible gaming creators, in locations that many players will recognize. We hope that the film and Wild Rift will help bring our Southeast Asian community closer together," he added.
