Mom's Dry Noodles suspends HK operations amid market exit rumours

Taiwanese noodle brand Mom’s Dry Noodles (老媽拌麵) has abruptly suspended operations in Hong Kong, raising concerns about a potential market exit.

This comes as several netizens recently reported on Threads that the brand’s North Point branch was marked “under renovation". A search on local dining platform OpenRice revealed that all remaining outlets in Hong Kong are also listed with the same status, prompting speculation about a full-scale shutdown.

While the store's notice indicates that the location is undergoing optimisation renovations, Mom’s Dry Noodles' Hong Kong website is currently suspended, MARKETING-INTERACTIVE confirmed. Meanwhile, its Facebook page has not been updated since November last year. However, a check of the Taiwanese Mom’s Dry Noodles official website still lists the addresses of its Hong Kong locations.

This situation has prompted netizens to speculate whether the brand is closing all its outlets. On Facebook, some users commented that the prices in Hong Kong are too high, while others expressed a preference for buying noodle packs to cook at home rather than dining in.

Founded in 2013, Mom’s Dry Noodles gained notoriety for its Tainan sun-dried Guan Miao noodles. The brand entered the Hong Kong market in 2019, opening its first overseas store in Tseung Kwan O, and at its peak, operated six locations in Hong Kong.

MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to Mom’s Dry Noodles for a statement.

In fact, Hong Kong's retail scene has been struggling, with a number of shops closing in recent years. Recently, Hongkongers flocked to Sincere Department Store (先施百貨) in Sham Shui Po for last-day bargains as it closed its doors last Sunday (4 January). With the closure of its Sham Shui Po branch, Sincere now has only two remaining physical stores in Mong Kok and Central, in addition to its online presence.

At the entrance of the Sham Shui Po store, a banner displayed the notice titled "Parting ways, but memories remain” (聚散終有時), expressing heartfelt gratitude to customers for their support and conveying the sadness of not being able to continue the journey together.
