Marketing Excellence Awards 2025 welcome Ant Group’s CMO to the judging panel

MARKETING-INTERACTIVE is proud to welcome Ray Chen Liang, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Ant Group, to the jury for Marketing Excellence Awards 2025, Singapore’s leading platform celebrating outstanding achievements and innovation in marketing.

Now in its 14th edition, the Marketing Excellence Awards continues to set the gold standard for the industry, honouring campaigns that combine creativity, strategic thinking, and measurable impact. This year’s programme features 48 diverse award categories across advertising, digital innovation, brand building, public relations, and more.

Ray joined Ant Group in March 2008 after a career in journalism. Since then, he has led the development and execution of global branding and communication strategies for Ant Group, throughout its transformation from the world’s leading mobile payment tool to its largest superapp, and to an all-around digitisation platform for China's service industry in the age of AI.

“As marketing campaigns increasingly focus on precise audience targeting, physical channels are evolving as well. Personalised marketing strategies and emerging channels need to be integrated with innovation to gain traction,” said Ray, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Ant Group.

In addition to promoting innovation, Ray highlighted the unprecedented importance of a company’s value system in an increasingly data-driven and algorithmically influenced marketing landscape.

“In recent discussions with industry peers, a recurring debate has emerged around the value of marketing. While algorithm undeniably enhances the precision of marketing strategies, its unchecked application, such as prolonging users’ online engagement indefinitely, can create information echo chambers. Our focus should extend beyond optimising narrow metrics like user acquisition, market share growth, or engagement rates, which risk fostering addictive behaviours. Instead, we must prioritise long-term value creation over short-term gains,” Ray said.
