Mah Sing Group has rolled out a four-part Merdeka video series named "The Fighting Spirit - Spirit of Reinvention" honouring Malaysians reinventing their way of living, following the COVID-19 pandemic. The first three parts covers the themes about fighting fit, going the extra mile and pushing the boundaries. The fourth and final installation will run on 28 August, encapsulating the entire journey of the rakyat, overcoming the challenges in life and how Mah Sing is playing its part to rise above the challenges as a nation.

The video was done in collaboration with production firm Idea Asia and Mah Sing's spokesperson told A+M that with the COVID-19 pandemic and Movement Control Order (MCO) changing the lives of Malaysians, the team knew this year's video could not be just another Merdeka video.

"We felt that there could be no better tribute to the spirit of Malaysia and Merdeka, than to put a spotlight on Malaysians who are successfully facing on adversity and overcoming it," the spokesperson said.

The campaign runs on social media and the episodes were kept short to appeal to mobile viewers. "Fighting fit" features the story of a former gym instructor who lost his job due to the MCO. Meanwhile, "Going the extra mile" touches on a factory engineer whose field was impacted by the pandemic, resulting in him being retrneched. "Pushing the boundaries" features a senior manager who now works at a grocery store after his previous company shut down due to the pandemic.

Mah Sing's founder and group MD Leong Hoy Kum said: "We draw strength from our resilient Malaysians, especially those who have had to diversify their income source to make ends meet. As we look around today, we can see that the Rakyat is striving forward and is trying their best to survive during these challenging times, which gives us hope to continue to reinventing and growing."
