LEGOLAND Malaysia turns culture into a hands-on experience

LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort is expanding its seasonal event calendar with a new 25-day family festival that blends Malaysian culture, hands-on activities and LEGO play.
Running from 27 August to 20 September, the inaugural festival brings together traditional performances, cultural workshops, collaborative LEGO builds and daily activities designed to give families multiple ways to take part.
The programme kicked off with a week-long 'Merdeka Opening Spectacular' featuring performances, followed by a series of competitions over the 29 to 31 August long weekend. These included a speed-building challenge, costume contest and singing competition.

From 7 to 13 September, the resort will spotlight Malaysia's cultural diversity through Cultural Week, featuring traditional performances such as Tarian Tradisi Malaysia, Tarian Rakyat Serumpun and Tarian Borneo.
At the centre of the experience is a collaborative LEGO Mural Jalur Gemilang, which invites guests to add their own bricks to complete the Malaysian flag. Other activities include colouring programmes, photo opportunities, lucky draws, workshops and special cultural performances taking place throughout the festival.
The experience will culminate in the Unity Grand Finale Farewell Show during the final week.

CS Lim, vice president of LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort, said the festival is intended to give families an opportunity to discover more about Malaysia while spending time together.
“Merdeka is a wonderful opportunity for families to come together, discover more about Malaysia and celebrate the diversity that makes our country so special. Through LEGO play, cultural performances and hands-on activities, we hope families can enjoy the festivities together and take home memories of a fun-filled Merdeka celebration," said Lim.
Thila Munusamy, director of sales and marketing at LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort said to A+M, "Malaysia is a country built on many cultures, traditions and stories, and we wanted MerdekaFest to be a celebration of that diversity through the lens of family fun and play. At LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort, we welcome families from Malaysia and around the world, so this is also an opportunity for our international guests to discover and experience a little more of what makes Malaysia special."
While this Merdeka Fest is the first of its kind, LEGOLAND shared with A+M that so far, response for it has been positive, and the resort would love for the festival to return next year.
The latest festival follows a broader approach by LEGOLAND Malaysia to build its calendar around immersive, themed experiences that extend beyond its core rides and attractions.
Earlier this year, "BRICKFEST 2026: Football Edition" transformed the resort into a football-themed playground from 22 May to 19 July, taking families through a “Journey of becoming a football star” with LEGO-led challenges, interactive activity zones and football-inspired entertainment.
Rather than simply using a theme as a visual layer, BRICKFEST turned it into a journey across the resort, with visitors receiving mission cards and moving through experiences such as LEGO football challenges, collaborative builds and a recreation of Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in MINILAND.
