Lanson Place Causeway Bay, Hong Kong is partnering with Hong Kong Tramways to launch the Ding Ding qipao tour on weekends, running from 17 May to 17 August 2025. Travelling from Sheung Wan to Causeway Bay, the tour invites participants to step back in time to experience the vibrant heritage of Hong Kong.

United by a shared vision to create culturally immersive experiences that resonate with both locals and travellers, Lanson Place Causeway Bay and Hong Kong Tramways have laid the groundwork for an exciting partnership.

The primary objective of this partnership is to cultivate a culturally immersive experience that showcases Hong Kong's rich heritage, said a spokesperson from Lanson. By launching the Ding Ding qipao Tour, Lanson Place Causeway Bay and Hong Kong Tramways aim to attract both locals and tourists, providing them with a distinctive opportunity to engage with the city’s vibrant history and traditions.

"Additionally, Lanson Place Causeway Bay seeks to forge deeper connections with community members, enriching modern travel experiences through authentic cultural interactions. With the Causeway Bay Terminus conveniently located adjacent to the hotel, we have a solid foundation for a fruitful collaboration that promises to enhance the overall visitor experience," added the spokesperson.

Idea behind the partnership

Targeting modern travellers, couples, friends and families, the partnership is designed to elevate visibility at both regional and local levels, effectively attracting guests who seek authentic cultural experiences in Hong Kong.

"Our primary focus is on building brand awareness through diverse channels, solidifying Lanson Place Causeway Bay’s position as a boutique luxury hotel that delivers unique and personalised experiences for discerning travellers. This collaboration with an iconic brand of cultural significance perfectly aligns with our vision to appeal to modern travellers who prioritise authenticity and luxury," added the spokesperson.

"We recognise a growing trend among travellers for immersive, shareable experiences that resonate on social media. The opportunity to wear a traditional qipao during the tour is particularly enticing, making it a standout offering that aligns seamlessly with these trends."

In addition to catering to tourists, the hotel actively promotes the tour as a delightful weekend activity for locals, inviting families, couples and friends to partake in this enriching experience. "This dual focus on both tourists and the local community enhances engagement and broadens our audience, fostering a vibrant cultural exchange," said the spokesperson.

Originating from the Qing dynasty (1644–1912), qipaos are a hallmark of Chinese identity, renowned for their elegance and historical significance. Their popularity surged in Hong Kong during the 1960s due to a significant influx of Shanghainese immigrants.

This collaboration aims to tell the stories of Hong Kong through a modern lens. Participants of the Ding Ding Qipao Tour will have the opportunity to put on a traditional qipao, available for rental from the clothing boutique, Yan Shang Kee, in Central.

With a variety of styles for women, men and children, this experience is perfect for couples, friends and families eager to embark on an off-the-beaten-path travel adventure. They will then board a beautifully restored 1920s-style open-top tram, gliding through the bustling streets of Hong Kong while savouring the nostalgia of a bygone era.

To elevate the consumer experience, participants are invited to visit Salon Lanson within Lanson Place, conveniently located next to the Causeway Bay Terminus, where they can enjoy a special cocktail inspired by The World of Suzie Wong, a romantic classic film set in 1960s Hong Kong.

Lanson Place Causeway Bay is dedicated to celebrating Hong Kong's rich cultural heritage and crafting distinctive travel experiences. To enhance this adventure, the hotel invites modern travellers to take advantage of its Chronicles of Nostalgia accommodation package, which includes a one-night stay along with two Ding Ding qipao tour passes.

Each pass features qipao rental and a tram journey from Western Market Terminus to Causeway Bay at 4:15 pm. Additionally, guests will enjoy two glasses of The World of Suzie Wong at Salon Lanson.

ROI measurement

To amplify the partnership, a dynamic social media campaign featuring photo posts, engaging reels and a photo contest will be hosted to encourage user-generated content across mainstream platforms in both international and Chinese markets. This initiative capitalises on the growing trends in retro fashion, appealing to a wide audience and driving engagement.

Furthermore, a visually captivating tram wrap advertisement highlighting this collaboration will run for one month, starting 1 May. This eye-catching display is designed to spark interest and curiosity among commuters and passersby.

On the other hand, Hong Kong Tramways will participate in prominent international events and tradeshows, facilitating outreach to a global audience of media, travel professionals and potential tourists. This presence aims to elevate awareness of the Ding Ding qipao Tour and position both brands as leaders in cultural tourism.

When it comes to measurement of returns on investment (ROI), the spokesperson said the number of tour passes sold will be tracked, as well as social media engagement and the volume of user-generated content featuring the tour to assess the effectiveness of its marketing strategies and the tour’s resonance with participants.

The hotel will also evaluate media coverage and mentions across various platforms to gauge the overall visibility of the partnership and its impact on brand recognition. Qualitative data will be gathered through reviews from participants to gauge satisfaction.

Danny Tse, area general manager of Lanson Place Causeway Bay, said, "Since our reopening last March, our team at Lanson Place Causeway Bay has been actively seeking opportunities to curate personalised experiences for our guests.
