Global brand experience agency Jack Morton has appointed Austin Powers (pictured) to the newly created role of APAC lead and strategy director for its innovation practice Genuine X. Besides spearheading Genuine X in APAC, Powers will also oversee strategy for the Singapore office.
He will also help clients across the region create extraordinary experiences by harnessing the opportunities presented at the intersection of emerging technology, content and data. Based in Singapore, Powers will report to Charles Robinson, SVP, MD at Jack Morton Singapore, and Damian Ferrar, global head of Genuine X.
Before joining Jack Morton, Powers was director of immersive and interactive, APAC at Freeman in Shanghai. He brings over a decade of experience in Asia, working across fine art, film and marketing, using his insight into culture and society as a platform to create meaningful connections between brands and audiences. Over the course of his career, Powers has worked with a wide variety of brands including Disney, Warner Bros, Ubisoft, Omega, Porsche, BMW, and Microsoft. Outside of work, he co-founded Loud Ocean, a non-profit organisation working across media, travel and education to support ocean conservation and inspire positive change.
Genuine X was launched in December last year and is supported by labs in London and Boston. It blends specialist expertise from both Jack Morton and its technology agency Genuine, leveraging a global talent pool to support client needs. Alongside Powers’ appointment, the agency is launching its Genuine X Academy – a global initiative which will give employees the opportunity to apply for an immersive secondment within the Genuine X team. The academy’s aim is to offer greater opportunity to the agency’s entrepreneurial and innovative thinkers and to support the growing needs of its clients and the expansion of its innovation practice.
Ferrar said Powers’ diverse experience and unique strategic talent is a fantastic addition to the Genuine X team, which is focused on fueling creativity and innovation to push the boundaries of brand experience.
“I’m thrilled that Austin is joining the team at an exciting time of expansion for Genuine X, particularly within the fast-growing APAC market, of which Austin has an extensive understanding and wealth of experience,” he added. Meanwhile, Robinson said that Powers’ unique experiences will help its clients find innovative strategies to engage their audience and create meaningful connections.

For the second consecutive year, Jack Morton has launched its creative latent incubator programme in Sydney, which is now open for applications. Candidates are required to demonstrate brave thinking, constant curiosity, and the capacity for big ideas to secure a place in the programme. In August, it produced a quirky video featuring employees from various departments in its Hong Kong office participating in a race to reach the new office, in celebration of the agency’s relocation.
