J. Walter Thompson Hong Kong has announced the appointment of Carlos Camacho as executive creative director, succeeding Simon Welsh who is returning to the UK after five years at Hong Kong’s creative helm.
Most recently as the executive creative director at J. Walter Thompson Shanghai, Camacho is one of the youngest and most-awarded ECD to have assumed creative leadership in Vietnam, China and now Hong Kong.
Camacho has worked with an array of local, regional and international clients including Bayer Healthcare, Johnson & Johnson, Intercontinental Hotels, Treasury Wine Estates, Unilever, Ali Cloud and Kit Kat. Having started his advertising career in his native Colombia, Camacho came to Asia with Mullen Lowe in 2014 as the creative lead of their flagship Vietnam office.
Camacho will report to Lo Sheung-yan, chairman of APAC Creative Council.
“Camacho is part of our new wave of creative talent across the region, taking a holistic approach to creativity, delivering integrated, solutions-based thinking for clients. Having seen his impact on the Shanghai office, we look forward to bringing him to Hong Kong,” commented Lo.
Speaking of Welsh’s departure, Mark Webster, CEO of J. Walter Thompson Hong Kong, expressed his gratitude for Welsh’s contribution. “We’re sad to see Simon (Welsh) leave Asia after five successful years. Not only was he our creative lead in Hong Kong, he also worked extensively with J. Walter Thompson London developing global campaigns for HSBC.”
