Housing Society’s Community ESG Programme bags win at Loyalty & Engagement Awards 2024

The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) launched the Community ESG Programme, a groundbreaking initiative that debuted last year as part of the organisation’s 75th Anniversary celebrations. This remarkable endeavour has earned HKHS the silver award in the “Best Eco-Loyalty Initiative” category at MARKETING-INTERACTIVE's Loyalty & Engagement Awards 2024 Hong Kong.
Fostering sustainability and making history in Hong Kong

The programme, known as the largest estate-based carbon reduction campaign in Hong Kong to date, has been meticulously designed to foster a healthy and low-carbon lifestyle within HKHS’s public rental estates. Over six months, it garnered impressive participation from over 13,000 households residing in HKHS rental estates and HKHS’s staff members. Furthermore, in support of the initiative, over 600 merchants offered shopping discounts and fabulous prizes to help promote a community-based green economy.
The collective efforts resulted in a significant reduction of approximately 900,000 kilograms of carbon emissions, equivalent to the annual CO₂ absorption of 37,000 trees. This achievement is seven times the number of trees found in Victoria Park, showcasing the positive impact of its community’s commitment to sustainability.
Bringing together the community to achieve sustainable goals

This accolade serves as a resounding affirmation of HKHS’s steadfast commitment to promoting sustainability in the community. Through workshops, roadshows, incentives, and the innovative gamification concept implemented in the “Zero2” app, HKHS has actively educated and engaged residents in tracking their carbon footprints and monitoring their carbon reduction progress.
This approach has effectively heightened their awareness and involvement in ESG matters in everyday life, particularly in the areas of “clothing, food, living, and walking.”
Hopefully this programme can serve as an inspiration, encouraging more individuals to contribute to Hong Kong’s vision of sustainable development and carbon neutrality by 2050, while concurrently fostering a community-centered green economy.
HKHS’s commitment to creating a sustainable future
As Hong Kong’s “housing laboratory”, HKHS has not only provided quality housing and related services for the people of Hong Kong but also proactively engaged stakeholders with innovative ideas and approaches to encourage community participation and build a sustainable community through joint efforts.
In 2022, HKHS established a cross-divisional sustainability working group and developed a sustainability blueprint. Moreover, a formal sustainability framework was formulated, encompassing the governance structure and strategy last year.
HKHS will steadfastly uphold its commitment to “Creating Homes for Sustainable Living” and will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders in achieving its vision of driving a sustainable future for all generations.
