Hong Kong is mulling to set up a team of local legal professions to promote Hong Kong's advantages and opportunities internationally.
The city’s secretary of justice Paul Lam said on a legal panel in LegCo on Monday that the Judiciary plans to set up a team of several legal professions to promote Hong Kong real stories overseas, including Hong Kong is the only jurisdiction in China that implements a common law system under "One Country, Two Systems".
“Hong Kong has a robust legal system, a solid foundation of the rule of law, and a wide range of legal and dispute resolution services, including mutual legal assistance arrangements of civil and commercial matters between Hong Kong and the Mainland,” Lam added.
Lam also added that the Judiciary plans to formulate appropriate teaching materials for sectors that have extensive exposure to different groups in society, including legal professionals, youth uniform teams, and the "caring teams" to be set up by the government, and to train legal education "trainers" in relevant sectors, also known as "train-the-trainers".
This aims at promoting consistent and correct information on the rule of law to the general public at the community level on important basic concepts such as the Constitution, the Basic Law, the National Security Law, and the common law system of the city, according to Lam.
This comes as Hong Kong authorities have started creating social media accounts on Xiaohongshu and Weibo to tell positive stories of Hong Kong internationally. Chris Tang Ping Keung, the secretary for security in Hong Kong said on his Facebook page on 10 September, that he has launched his official account on Weibo and Xiaohongshu upon Mid-Autumn Festival.
