Google runs Malaysia's first ‘MapUp’ event

Last week saw the inaugural local MapUp event take place in Bangsar with 34 participants. Led by the Google Business Group (GBG) Malaysia Kuala Lumpur chapter, the event had enthusiasts working together to add more relevant information to the Malaysian places they know and love on Google Maps.

“Participants were taught how to add, edit and review features of Google MapMaker. This helps add other information layers onto Google Maps such as relevant local business and interesting spots”, Desmond Chai, Chapter Manager for GBG Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia’s Regional Lead for MapMaker, said.

“They learnt how to add local information and layers onto the map of a neighborhood, region, or even for a particular feature such as hiking trails or cycling routes. This gives Google Maps an added dimension with more useful information for end users ready at their fingertips.”

Participants were also briefed on how to use Google My Maps, a feature that can be used to customise Google Maps for personal use and sharing. They were also exposed to the Local Guides program, a global community of explorers who share their discoveries on Google Maps.
