FedEx Malaysia unites the nation through language this Merdeka Day

FedEx Malaysia has released a heartwarming Merdeka Day video titled “Different strangers. One conversation. Endless Malaysian pride”, capturing the rich linguistic diversity that unites the nation.

The seven-minute-long video opens with strangers meeting one another, speaking in each other’s mother tongues, and sharing candid conversations about their favourite things about Malaysia, from local foods to cherished cultural traditions.

The interactions culminate in the surprise reveal of each person’s actual race, sparking joy, appreciation, and a celebration of unity across differences.

Produced by JAP Media, the video is primarily hosted on YouTube, with a teaser trailer shared via FedEx’s Facebook page to drive viewers to the full clip.

In conversation with A+M, Tien Long Woon, managing director of FedEx Malaysia, said the company has been part of Malaysia’s journey since 1993, and its Merdeka video reflects a commitment not just to team members but also to the wider communities it serves.

"As our first Merdeka-themed content, it showcases how we have combined global expertise with deep local understanding throughout our 32 years here. By bringing together Malaysians from diverse backgrounds, we celebrate the strength found in our differences and the unity that defines our nation," he said. 

Tien added, "As one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, our role goes beyond delivering parcels — we connect people and possibilities, creating shared moments of pride this Merdeka. Our presence in Malaysia is more than just a business, it is a meaningful investment in the people and stories that make this country truly special."

To extend the Merdeka celebration, FedEx Malaysia is also running two Facebook giveaway contests. Participants who like the FedEx APAC Facebook page and answer three simple questions will stand a chance to win customised photobooks from Photobook Malaysia.

Full contest details will be available from 26 August onwards.

FedEx joins other brands ramping up efforts this Merdeka Day. Lalamove Malaysia is celebrating unity with its campaign "Kita move bersama" (‘We move together’), spotlighting delivery driver partners and everyday users who keep the country moving.

Meanwhile, Astro is marking the season with "Inilah KITA, sehati bersama" (‘This is us, with a united heart’), a month-long celebration of diversity featuring curated programming, live events, music, and on-ground activations.
