Sunway Group has appointed former foodpanda Malaysia managing director, Tan Ming Luk, as its new chief growth and operations officer.

Tan announced the move on LinkedIn, saying he is looking forward to “the challenges and victories ahead with the world-class team”.

“While I’m excited about the new chapter in my career, I can’t help but look back with gratitude at my time as managing director of foodpanda Malaysia. It was an honour to lead such a talented group of people through the complexities of the on-demand economy,” he wrote.

Tan led foodpanda Malaysia as managing director for over a year and a half, before being succeeded by former PropertyGuru Malaysia country manager, Kenneth Soh.

With over a decade of leadership experience in commercial and operational roles across Singapore and Malaysia, Tan brings with him industry knowledge, deep understanding of local markets and consumers, and a proven track record for driving business growth.

Before joining foodpanda, Tan was chief commercial officer at Touch ‘n Go Group. He also previously served as chief of staff and head of LazMall strategy and operations at Lazada, and spent four years as country head for Malaysia and Singapore at OYO Hotels. Earlier in his career, he was senior category manager and head of paid advertising at Shopee.

Tan’s role as managing director at foodpanda Malaysia has since been taken over by Kenneth Soh, who will oversee the company’s business strategy and operations in the market, with a mandate to strengthen its position as a go-to platform for meals, groceries and everyday essentials.

Soh brings extensive experience in Southeast Asia’s digital economy. Prior to joining foodpanda, he served as country manager for Malaysia at PropertyGuru Group, where he led the growth of both the PropertyGuru and iProperty platforms.

The leadership change comes alongside another shift within the local team, with marketing director Steff Yong stepping down from her role.

Announcing her departure in a LinkedIn post, Yong described her tenure as “a wild and memorable” experience, expressing gratitude to her team and colleagues.

Yong brought over 15 years of experience to the role, overseeing foodpanda Malaysia’s end-to-end marketing strategy, spanning brand positioning, growth marketing and creative campaigns, with a focus on driving customer growth and strengthening its presence across food delivery and quick commerce.
