E-bike company in Vietnam doubles up as emergency generator for small businesses

Dat Bike, known for electric bikes, turned its e-bikes into emergency power generators, helping small business owners to survive during these blackouts. The initiative, which ran in Vietnam and was created alongside ad agency Happiness Saigon, also saw a hotline service launched to connect the owners with a local Dat Biker and their fully charged e-bike.
This comes after blackouts in Vietnam have risen 300%, resulting in loss of revenue for several small business owners.

Dat Bike’s latest campaign, titled Re:Charge, focused on its ability to power these small businesses through unexpected blackouts.
Its campaign materials featured a tattoo resuming its business after receiving power support from the e-bike. In another snapshot, a group of Dat Bikers is seen bringing the emergency power generator to help a grocery owner in Vietnam.
The campaign’s ground-up focus on empowering small businesses have strengthened the start-up’s brand image in a market where 90% of e-bikes are owned by multinationals. Recognised by the Vietnam ministry as the first domestically made electric bike, it relies on suppliers primarily based in Vietnam instead of third-party imports.
“We are long past the point where electric vehicles are subpar to combustion vehicles. Unfortunately, the perception remains somewhat different in Vietnam. With Re:Charge, we turned our biggest weakness into a huge strength," said Jazz Tonna, partner and creative director at Happiness Saigon.
This is not the first time e-bikes have received the spotlight for aiding businesses. A few months back, fast food chain Domino's Pizza announced its plans to launch a new e-bike called the dxb delivery bike.
The e-bike features a built-in, fan-forced oven and shock absorbers system to ensure pizzas remain warm during delivery. According to a statement by the pizzeria, the dxb delivery bike keeps meals at 68 degrees celsius so that food will arrive to customers' homes as how it was made in store.
