Homegrown lifestyle brand dUCk has collaborated with Barbie the Movie to produce a line of fashion items, the first collaboration a local brand has done with Barbie in the country, according to a statement by the company.

Commenting on the collaboration, Vivy Yusof, co-founder of dUCk group said that the brand launched its first collection in collaboration with Barbie in 2019, becoming that world’s first modest fashion brand to do so.

“The first two collaborations were well-received but this one is even more exciting, coinciding with the release of ‘Barbie the Movie’,” said Yusof.

“Beyond a collection of cool, fashionable items, the movie’s storyline of Barbie going out [into] the real world resonates with our customers and dUCkies. The journey of overcoming fear, finding strength in hardship, and moving on with courage and confidence speak of the values dUCk [holds] on to, and we hope to share that positivity and support with our customers,” Yusof added.

The ‘Barbie the Movie’ x dUCk limited edition collection will be offering a varying range of the brand’s favorites, from scarves to shopping bags to ready-to-wear (RTW) pieces.

“Collaborating with dUCk and the Barbie movie reaches the next level of localisation and adaptation by both brands, creating a unique and exciting crossover that appeals to a much wider audience,” said Michelle Wan, head of consumer products at Mattel South Asia.

The collection derived its inspiration from travel, self-discovery and self-love, it said.

Additionally, the collection features scarves in 10 designs in both shawl and square and is curated with dUCk’s satin silk material. It is also available in a variety of colours ranging from blue and turquoise to fuchsia and pink, with product names such as ‘Barbie Dreams’, ‘Best Day Ever’, ‘Hey Blondie’, ‘Let’s Beach’, ‘The President’ and ‘I’m just Ken’.

Interested customers can keep a lookout for the ‘Barbie the Movie’ x dUCk RTW collection which highlights practicality with its collection of comfortable and stylish jumpers priced at RM320 each, as well as the ‘Barbie the Movie’ x dUCk mini shopping bags that are priced at RM85.

The ‘Barbie the Movie’ x dUCk collection is available on dUCk’s official website and app starting from 20 July till 28 July

The news comes just as numerous brands worldwide have launched its collaboration in tandem with the release of the Barbie movie. The Internet has been abuzz with many of Barbie's marketing tricks which have included everything from a selfie generator that gives fans the opportunity to insert pictures of themselves straight into Barbie Land to strategic collaborations with Airbnb homes, clothing companies and more.
