Dept snaps up Dogstudio to grow immersive capabilities

Global digital agency Dept has acquired creative studio Dogstudio, which expertises in 3D, immersive digital and physical experiences. The acquisition reflects the agency's aims of boosting its capabilities in experiential design and Web3 technologies across EMEA and the Americas. Dept declined to comment on the cost of acquisition.

As part of Dept, Dogstudio will continue to operate under the leadership of Henry Daubrez, partner and CEO and chief creative officer of Dept, and Nicolas Moies-Delval, managing partner and chief revenue officer of Dept.

According to Dept, Dogstudio is known for creating immersive digital and physical experiences for Supercell, Expo 2020 Dubai, Tomorrowland, Adobe, The New York Times, Microsoft, and Hulu. Its team in the US, Mexico, Belgium, and The Netherlands specialise in user-centric and immersive real-time experiences, 3D platforms, and a growing list of Web3 and metaverse projects.

Dogstudio has been a long-term partner of Dept, working with multiple teams such as BASIC/Dept and Hello Monday which is part of Dept. Most recently, Dogstudio also worked with Dept's Amsterdam team on projects such as illustrated 3D experience for de Bijenkorf, a chain of high-end department stores in the Netherlands.

Dimi Albers, CEO of Dept, said: “Dogstudio is known across the world for creating awe-inspiring digital experiences at scale, that look incredible and achieve strong results for our clients." But, most importantly, Albers said that Moies-Delval and Daubrez have built an awesome culture which is all about creating the best work with great people and enjoying the ride.

He added that the agency is super happy that Dogstudio is officially joining Dept on its journey to becoming "the best digital agency in the world", given that the agency has collaborated with the creative studio for a while.

On the other hand, Dogstudio's Daubrez explained that the team has received numerous marks of interest from various companies over the years, but it’s been a challenge to identify the perfect match and it constantly hit the same roadblock: values.

"Joining something bigger than us needs to make sense from both a human and professional point of view," he added. According to Daubrez, it sees a perfect culture-alignment and the same ambition and hunger the team also haswhen it comes to making an impact as a digital company.

Dept was founded in Amsterdam in 2015, and has more than 3,000 people in 17 countries across five continents operating under the agency. It has worked with brands such as Google, Philips, eBay, Patagonia, ASOS, and Diageo.

Meanwhile, Dogstudio is the fifth agency to join Dept in the past six months. Recently, Dept has accelerated its capabilities around Web3 technology, including launching a dedicated Metaverse Practice, and hosting the world’s first 24-hour metaverse event, Meta Festival, on 28 June 2022.

In particular, Max Pinas, ECD of Dept, explained then that the agency has gained "a lot of experience with Web3 technologies to really get under the skin for how we can help our clients develop customer experiences like we’ve never seen before. With our dedicated Metaverse Practice, we are able to build the bridge between the CMO and CTO. We see it as a creative opportunity akin to the first-ever websites; we’re at the dawn of a new digital age."

Last December, the agency also expanded into APAC, picking Vishnu Mohan as partner and growth officer. Mohan, formerly CEO at Havas Group for Southeast Asia, India and North Asia, is responsible for the Asia-wide rollout and expansion of Dept’s offerings.
