Costa Coffee MY hands creative and digital remit to new agency

British coffeehouse chain Costa Coffee has handed its integrated mandate to Havas Malaysia after moving on from Ogilvy Malaysia.  Havas will now spearhead all marketing efforts for the brand, encompassing strategy, digital marketing, social media, creative, trade marketing, and in-store assets, it said in a statement.

“We are excited with what 2024 will bring. Costa Coffee is a beloved brand among coffee enthusiasts, and we are dedicated to growing brand love by continuously listening to our customers," said Lim Ju Lee, head of marketing, Costa Coffee Malaysia.

"The appointment of Havas will not only help us in that direction but also facilitate us to undertake an aggressive growth strategy to further strengthen our brand relevance locally while maintaining our international credentials. The passion of the Havas team was clearly visible through their ideas and their thinking, and we are delighted to welcome them as our agency partners to help lead this transition.”

"This is an incredible exciting new business win for us at Havas Malaysia. Unlike other big network groups, we customise our Havas Village solution to fit the client’s business, a key differentiator that has convinced clients that we are the best agency for their brand," added Nizwani Shahar, CEO Havas Malaysia.

"Our partnership with Costa Coffee is the start of a meaningful journey to solidify their brand vision and reaffirm our brand promise to make a meaningful difference to brands, businesses and people," she said.

Costa Coffee was founded in London in 1971. With their express machines, they revolutionised the industry by bringing coffee shop-quality beverages to convenience stores and roadsides across the UK. In Malaysia, Costa Coffee has made an impact by introducing over 650 Costa Smart Cafes (self-serve machines) nationwide and establishing 14 Costa Coffee Stores in Klang Valley, KLIA, and Langkawi airports. The brand now looks to expand further in Malaysia, not only by increasing its store locations but also by actively enhancing its brand equity in the Malaysian market, it said.

It appointed Ogilvy Malaysia for brand and social media management, as well as campaign management in February last year. As part of the appointment, Ogilvy drove strategy, insights, creative ideation, in-store assets, video assets and social content for the coffee chain.
