Canon has appointed Singapore Olympian and Asian Games gold medallist Joseph Schooling as its new brand ambassador. The partnership is for a length of three years until 2021 and will see Schooling fronting the brand’s marketing campaigns across print and digital platforms.
In addition, he will also be supporting Canon events through appearances for deeper engagement with the Canon community network of customers and photography fans. Parents of Schooling, Colin and May Schooling will also be featured alongside the swimmer in Canon’s marketing campaigns, the press release read.
The deal is one out of two sports sponsorships the company struck to bolster its support for the local sporting talents, the other being a renewal of its agreement with the Singapore Bowling Federation as an official partner. The move was made to not only celebrate its 10th year of partnership with the federation, but also continue to groom the local bowlers. The renewal also highlights the brand’s continuing dedication to nurture young sportspeople in Singapore.
According to Melvyn Ho, senior vice president and head of Singapore operations, Canon Singapore, the brand recognises and admires Schooling’s “vision for excellence”. Ho added that the brand has been an active patron of the sports community, and applauds the discipline and tenacity exhibited by the local athletes.
“Sports has a compelling way of weaving closer ties within our local communities. We are excited to renew our partnership with the Singapore Bowling Federation for the 10th year, and warmly welcome Joseph Schooling as our latest brand ambassador,” he said.
Canon official sponsor for 18th Asian Games
On a regional front, Canon has also come on board as a sponsor for the 18th Asian Games which will take place in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018.
Following the agreement, the brand aims to provide further operational support at the Asian Games through its range of consumer and enterprise products and services. This will see Canon on-site to provide behind-the-scenes technical support, advice and maintenance services of cameras and lenses to members of the media covering the Asian Games 2018.
This will see Canon also engaging both Schooling and the Singapore National Bowling team to be featured in its Asian Games integrated brand campaign across print and digital platforms in Singapore. This campaign looks to express how the brand celebrates excellence through sportsmanship, and brings the unique experience of the triumph, trials and excitement of the Asian Games 2018 even closer to fans across Asia.
