With the rising prevalence of chronic diseases in Singapore such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol and strokes, Sport Singapore was aiming to provide individuals with the knowledge of health and wellness, coupled with supporting tools and sports programmes to provide and reinforce the knowledge that is required for sustaining an active life at every life stage.

Tagit partnered with Sport Singapore to develop the ?My Active Health? app as part of the ?Active Health? marketing campaign for Sport Singapore to help create public health awareness.

Market challenge

In 2018, the Active Citizens Worldwide Singapore report revealed that 42.9% of the Singapore population met 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week. It concluded that more active citizens would result in a higher value generation across three key outcomes (economic, health and social).

Taking a deeper dive into the key outcome of health, the value of sport and physical activity is estimated to annually generate $454 million in savings as well as resulting in 19,800 additional years of a healthy life and 575 fewer deaths.

Objectives

With a rising prevalence of chronic diseases in Singapore, Active Health aims to:

  • Empower individuals to actively take charge of their health and live better through sport.
  • Provide a holistic ecosystem to support and sustain individuals to live life to the fullest in different phases of life.
  • Increase the economic, health and social value of sport and physical activity, and reduce healthcare costs.
  • Nurture a nation of healthy, caring, cohesive and confident citizens.

Solutions

Active Health, an initiative by Sport Singapore and powered by ActiveSG, is a key pillar of a holistic ecosystem comprising infrastructure, programmes, people, as well as technology, providing many simple ways for citizens to take their first steps together towards a more active and healthy lifestyle.

  • Connect ? explore discovery spaces in Sport-in-Precincts, and connect with active health experts and ActiveSG sports champions to guide and motivate your progress.
  • Assess ? book a free assessment conducted by active health experts at Active Health Labs to understand one?s current fitness and health status.
  • Team up ? enrich your active and healthy life with a wide variety of ActiveSG and Active Health programmes and interest groups that are suitable for all ages. You can also join Team Nila as a sports volunteer to give back to your community.

The My Active Health App was developed to provide a one-stop solution for Singaporeans to actively own and track their fitness and health, anytime, anywhere. With a seamless connection to smartphones, wearables, and measurement devices, the app comprises a comprehensive suite of features that provides users with a personalised dashboard that captures the results of fitness and health assessments.

Its features complement the capabilities of the 8 Active Health Labs and eight self-served ActiveFit kiosks that are located island-wide, bringing convenience to citizens.

There is a variety of assessments that cater to the needs of varying fitness, health levels and age groups. For those who are strong and fit, they can take on the planking challenge that uses the sensor in smartphones to determine their core strength, and better their records.

Other assessments that help to understand and improve the quality of daily life activities include the functional movement and age-related muscle loss screening.

Based on the results of the assessments, the My Active Health app follows up with a customised 12-week programme to encourage users with tips and articles to sustain their active health journey.

At the end of the programme, there is an automated reminder to nudge users to book check-in appointments to review and get insights on their progress, in consultation with active health experts. It doesn?t stop there. With better integration, users can also book ActiveSG programmes and facilities conveniently from the app to stay active.

The app provides opportunities for cross-agency collaborations and a capabilities link-up with Singapore?s healthcare sector to benefit our citizens. Partnerships with healthcare organisations enable doctors and active health experts to follow up with users who have medical referral requirements which are also documented in the app.

Outcomes

Since its inception on 31 March 2018, 24,000 app users have benefited from the convenience of managing their fitness and health right from their smartphones. Fifty per cent of the app users have been actively following up to track their progress via the self-served ActiveFit kiosks on their own time. From 2019 to 2020, there will be more ActiveFit kiosks deployed island-wide to serve the users.

The Mob-Ex gold award reinforces Tagit?s mission to provide government bodies modern apps to engage with citizens. It is a step forward for Tagit towards being a partner of choice for regional government agencies in their digital transformation journeys.
