John Teoh has stepped down from his role as a general manager at Y&R Malaysia. A+M understands that his last day with the agency was on 29 September 2017. Teoh confirmed the move to A+M.
Teoh was previously GM at BBDO Malaysia, and left the role late last year after nearly two years in the position. His role was replaced in the role by Farrah Harith McPherson. Teoh, who joined BBDO Malaysia in 2011 was once appointed as its client service director and business head. Prior to that, he was with Euro RSCG for about nine years.
A+M has reached out to Y&R for a statement.
Teoh’s departure comes about a week before the announcement of the exit of Matthew Collier, CEO of Y&R Group Indonesia this week. Collier, who is expected to complete his tenure by the end of October with Y&R – has been appointed by video streaming company iflix as head of iflix Indonesia. He reports to the incoming head of Asia, Jonas Engwall.
As CEO of Y&R Group Indonesia, he was in charge of leading growth of agency revenue, and increased profits by more than double. Prior to that, Collier served as CEO of Y&R Indochina where he oversaw the agency’s growth including the launch of the Myanmar office.
In March this year, Y&R Malaysia appointed Emir Shafri to executive creative director, reporting to Y&R Asia regional chief creative officer Marcus Rebeschini. As Y&R Malaysia’s executive creative director, Shafri works in partnership with the agency’s group managing director Lisa Hezila.
The appointment came shortly after Y&R Malaysia saw the exit of chief creative officer Gigi Lee in November last year, who moved on to join TBWAGroup Malaysia. At TBWAGroup Malaysia, she is tasked to drive the creative output across all clients within the agency which includes Creative Juice and Digital Arts Network.
