Yahoo's logo launch: Buzzy or muddled?

Throughout August, Yahoo US homepages will be showcasing a number of alternative logos, which will lead up to an official unveiling of a new Yahoo logo on September 5 globally.The strategy is getting mixed reviews on social sites and particularly on YouTube where promo video is posted.For 20 years the iconic Yahoo logo has remain largely unchanged but since Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer took on the role last July and among many major acquisitions including Tumblr and Rockmelt, the site has decided to rework it's branding with a new logo."We heard from users that our logo could better reflect the renewed energy and focus of the company.  This new logo will align with our more sophisticated design aesthetic," said Kathy Savitt, CMO of Yahoo."We want to preserve the character that is unique to Yahoo - fun, vibrant, and welcoming - after all, some things never go out of style," she added.So is the final logo one of the many alternative versions? Savitt said it will be in the rotation along with some fun and outlandish creations, but the final version will be designed by the Yahoo team to ensure it was "consistent with the aesthetic of our products".In partnership with in-house product designers, and with input from employees and users, alternative logos will be renewed everyday simultaneously on its Tumblr、Twitter (#dailylogo) and Facebook Page.Watch the promotional video here.
