Virtual banks in Hong Kong are striving to gain more market share and WeLab Bank is no exception. Offering incentives for opening new accounts is a proven strategy to acquire customers, and WeLab Bank has launched a video campaign to tell the benefits of joining the bank.

The campaign "Virtual Ben" consists of a series of videos featuring scholar Benjamin Au Yeung (Ben Sir), known for his dedication to promoting Cantonese. In the videos, Ben Sir tells the benefits of opening an account at WeLab Bank and using the debit card enjoy cash rebate.

Ben Sir incorporates his expertise in Cantonese into the videos. For example, he explains some common slangs but seldom do people know how to write the correct Chinese characters.

"Being the only homegrown virtual bank in Hong Kong, WeLab Bank has the unique edge of knowing what Hongkongers want and we can relate – as we ‘speak’ your language. We’re delighted to have Ben Sir who is the epitome of Cantonese slang to lead the campaign, bringing together a refreshing take on the relevance, relatability of fintech and virtual banks. To celebrate the upcoming festive season, we hope to spark joy with account opening rewards and attractive cash rebates," said Tat Lee, alternate chief executive of WeLab Bank.
