Desmond Ngai has joined Astro as senior AVP, business lead for OTT partnerships after more than five years with WebTVAsia. Ngai (pictured) was most recently the senior VP, global alliances at WebTVAsia, during which he was responsible for “high impact strategic initiatives” supporting the company across six core businesses – multiplatform networks, owned and operated platforms, production studios, brand solutions, artiste management and experiential events, according to his LinkedIn.

He also led group corporate communications, government affairs and industry engagement across Asia Pacific. He first joined the company in 2014 as VP, strategy and partnerships. WebTVAsia’s spokesperson confirmed Ngai’s departure to A+M, adding that there is no replacement for Ngai at the moment. Astro declined to comment on A+M’s queries.

Prior to WebTVAsia, Ngai was with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation as head of investment, creative multimedia division for close to three years. He also worked at Media Prima Digital as Tonton’s brand manager. Last month, Astro extended its complimentary viewing for six learning channels until 12 May, shortly after the government extended the Movement Control Order yet again.

Meanwhile, its eCommerce arm Go Shop also unveiled a Ramadan e-bazaar in support of local F&B businesses as well as a special channel for consumers. Go Shop joins foodpanda and Grab in pushing out Ramadan e-bazaars as the government banned them a few weeks ago to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A+M's Content 360 conference is going virtual, and will bring together industry leaders to discuss challenges and share insights on future content marketing trends, as well as successful strategies to help tackle the complex marketing landscape. Sign up here!
