W Hong Kong has collaborated with urban sketching artist Rob Sketcherman to present an art exhibition that invites guests to explore diverse perspectives on local city life.

Based in Hong Kong, Sketcherman is known for his iPad urban sketches and thrives on the immediacy of capturing the rich details of everyday life as they unfold on location.

Captured through Sketcherman’s unique interpretations, the “Time-lapsed tales: Sketching the city life of Hong Kong” exhibition is open to the public with free admission from 16 September to 14 November, at the 1/F Lobby in W Hong Kong. It encourages visitors and art lovers to discover various viewpoints on the vibrant life of the city.

Sketcherman has vividly captured the city’s most iconic attractions, vibrant street scenes, nostalgic neighbourhoods, and distinct island culture on location using his iPad. In the hotel lobby, five screens will feature time-lapse videos that reveal the meticulous process behind each artwork, highlighting over 10 of his favourite pieces.

These include scenes from Victoria Harbour as viewed from Braemar Hill, Triangle Street, Tai O Stilt House, as well as the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, in celebration of the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, and more.

Through capturing these detailed and dynamic scenes, Sketcherman hopes to inspire viewers to pause and appreciate the beauty that surrounds them daily.

“In narrow alleyways and bustling street corners, I have found my senses heightened as I absorb in the stories, sounds and sights around me. After moments of observation, ranging from fleeting seconds to deep contemplation, I sketch, draw and paint to encapsulate that magical confluence of time and place,” he said.

“During my memorable stay at W Hong Kong, I even sketched the living room of the Extreme WOW Suite, featuring its unparalleled panoramic views of Victoria Harbour,” he added.

Anas Bencheqroun, multi-property general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong and W Hong Kong, said: "We are thrilled to collaborate with Rob and showcase his urban artwork. At W Hong Kong, we are dedicated to supporting the local artistic community and providing a platform for talented artists to shine. We hope this exhibition will engage and inspire our guests and travelers while promoting the vibrant art and culture scene as well as our dynamic neighborhood in Hong Kong."
