Uber’s new feature offers real-time information on public transport

Uber Hong Kong has launched Uber Transit to help riders plan their journeys across different public transport options by leveraging real-time data.

The company said launching Uber Transit would strengthen the synergies between ride-sharing and the existing public transport network, while helping to modernise how transit authorities operate across their suite of services.

Users can now plan their journeys in Hong Kong with the help of a comprehensive overview of public transit information and step-by-step navigation in Uber’s app. It includes real-time information and schedules for MTR, minibuses, trams, buses, and private estate shuttles, allowing them to choose the fastest and cheapest route to get to their destination.

After adding a destination on the app, users will see ““Transit” below other options, such as UberX and Taxi, along with an estimated price. By selecting “Transit”, the app will show information about MTR, buses, and other types of transit with real-time scheduling, arrival and departure times, pricing, information on stops, and walking directions to the destination.

Users also have the option of customising each Uber Transit journey by choosing their preferred modes of transit and route, as well as the ability to rate and provide feedback at the end of each Uber Transit journey. The feature will be gradually rolled out to all Hong Kong users by the end of the month.

“Bringing Uber Transit to Hong Kong enables us to work towards our commitment to increase the city’s productivity and make movement around the city seamless,” said Estyn Chung, general manager of Uber Hong Kong.

“Around the world, we see many Uber trips begin and end at transit stations, and today’s announcement is about maximising these synergies to help Hong Kong move better.”
