Music is a universal language. Through rhythm and melody, music can bring positivity to people around the world during difficult times. To delight customers and its audience, The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s brand Happy Wednesday has gathered five musicians from different points in time to form the virtual Happy Wednesday Band (HWB).

The colourful showcase is an extension of Happy Wednesday’s efforts to spread joy even as entertainment activities are limited during the pandemic. Last year, amid social distancing restrictions, the Happy Wednesday team launched the virtual campaign “Journey to Positivity” to push forward its digital transformation and uphold the value of staying positive. The campaign allowed Happy Wednesday to sustain its existing network of fans and reach out to those overseas.hw back online

Through Zoom interviews, we caught up with champion jockey Zac Purton, Joao Moreira, trainer Douglas Whyte and many more to learn about their secrets to finding hope despite the challenges they face.

Asked about the virtual band HWB that somehow landed on his lap, all-round creative iconoclast Hans Ebert says, “I haven’t exactly analysed where the band came from. They could have come from somewhere and everywhere.

Comprising singer Aegyo, drummer Boom, Slap on bass, Tones on anything around, and HG, the band’s unofficial space captain, Happy Wednesday said HWB are time travellers from the future.

Through some strange realignment of the planets, they have found each other and are now here as HWB. And now that they’re here, and seeing everything that’s happening and not happening, their mission is to make good things happen. Easier said than done, but HWB is committed to making this happen with help from anyone and everywhere who will join them. It won’t be easy, but it will be fun and challenging and led through music, everything in between and a different mindset.

Looking forward to you joining the journey.
