Tesco Stores (Malaysia) is taking over Shopee this Chinese New Year with its first-ever Super Brand Day event on 15 January, which will see items discounted to as low as 50% and the issuance of 2,000 vouchers for customers.

Tesco's Super Brand Day is part of a three-day campaign from 13 to 15 January which features promotions, entertainment and games, as well as exclusive privileges. Tesco currently offers 1,600 items on Shopee, with over 400 Tesco own brand products.

Its CEO Paul Ritchie said since 2016, it has invested its efforts into launching a long-term price strategy and it is now extending this approach to consumers who shop via Shopee. He explained that through Super Brand Day, it is not only helping customers manage their cost of living, but also makes the shopping experience fun for them.

He added that Tesco was the first retailer in Malaysia to launch its own digital presence through Tesco Online in 2013. "Our partnership with Shopee has been beneficial for us as it has enabled us to expand our online penetration further and reach more online customers throughout the country which includes customers in Sabah and Sarawak, where we do not yet have a physical presence in," he said.

Meanwhile, Shopee's regional MD Ian Ho said Tesco has been growing steadily on its platform since August 2018 and the Super Brand Day marks Tesco's commitment to further grow its eCommerce channel. Besides Tesco, other brands that have come on board for Super Brand Day include P&G, Tohtonku and L’Oréal.

Tesco's Super Brand Day will run alongside its “Semua ONG Mali 2020″ Chinese New Year campaign, which involves 21 commercials with relatable and funny storylines. Each 30-second episode will feature a fictitious feng shui practictioner, Master Ong, in all sorts of comical situations. It is also hosting a 13-hour Facebook Live sale where items will be sold at attractive prices and customers will stand the chance to win Golden Hours vouchers.
