Telkom's Metranet strikes partnership with Brightcove

Metranet, a subsidiary of Telkom Indonesia, has appointed cloud service platform Brightcove to launch OONA, a mobile app which looks to provide linear and video on demand (VOD) experiences to audiences. Following the partnership, Brightcove’s video cloud platform will stream 20 live channels on OONA, and also enable server-side ad insertion in a bid to provide a seamless ad experience, the statement read.The OONA platform is Telkom’s advertising video on demand (AVOD) OTT service which aims to “revolutionise the TV distribution and viewing experience”. This includes the provision of features such as chat bots, offline caching, parental controls, virtual wallets, 360-video player, to name a few. It also includes a chat function for viewers to communicate with one another.Marketing Interactive has reached out to Brightcove and Metranet for additional details.Joddy Hernady, SVP media and digital business, Telkom Indonesia, said that Brightcove was selected for its “robust and scalable OTT video streaming architecture”. The latter was also selected for its server-side ad insertion technology and experience in the market, along with an in-region technical support team.“With 135 million potential viewers, we understand the pressure is intense to ensure that even with free content, the streaming experience needs to be exceptional and the advertising experience should be seamless,” Hernady said."OONA is the future of OTT and a game-changer for TV operators and viewers in Indonesia, where great content, delivered on mobile, and monetised via an ad-funded model has hit the sweet spot," Ben Morrell, general manager, Brightcove, Asia, said.Read also: Telkom Indonesia inks deal with Indonesian Industrial Estates Association
