Spotify gets cosmic with horoscope-related new playlist

Do you believe in horoscopes? Well, if you do, this one's for you. Spotify has curated cosmic playlists of various horoscope signs to keep things fresh in your ears. This comes shortly after it churned out Chinese zodiac playlists, featuring artists of the same zodiac sign during Chinese new year.

These included tunes from Singaporean singers JJ Lin (Year of the Rooster) and Stefanie Sun (Year of the Horse), as well as Taiwanese singers Jay Chou (Year of the Goat), Jolin Tsai (Year of the Monkey) and A-Mei (Year of the Rat). In a statement to Marketing then, Spotify's spokesperson said the Chinese zodiac is an integral part of the Chinese culture and it wanted to celebrate Chinese New Year with a series of playlists filled with songs of artists belonging to the same Zodiac sign.

Late last year, Spotify brought back its annual personalised "Spotify Wrapped" feature and got netizens raving and sharing. Taking a more nostalgic route, its 2019’s Wrapped feature included users' listening throughout the last decade. Songs, albums, artists, and podcasts discovered throughout the year, as well as most streamed artists throughout the decade on Spotify will be unveiled to users.

Meanwhile, to drum up the PR value of this new initiative even further, for every artist, Spotify has also created a tailor-made experience summarising the highlights of their year on the platform.

[Marketing is delighted to bring back Content 360 for another year following a hugely successful conference in 2019. Most recently, Spotify also tested its new Stories feature by allowing selected influencers to integrate video bits into their public playlists. According to TechCrunch, the music platform confirmed the move and said its first influencer is YouTuber Summer Mckeen who largely creates content around beauty. Similar to the Stories' feature on social media apps Instagram and Facebook, Spotify's Stories feature comprises video clips that users can tap on to move to the next screen.
