Shocking road safety ad makes our efforts look tame [video]

What if, before the bang, you can plead for your life? What if that plead also means the life of your loved ones?

In this gut-wrenching and spot on public safety awareness TVC launched by the New Zealand government, time freezes over just milliseconds before two vehicles collide for the drivers to talk about the inevitable.

“This campaign aims to reframe the way people look at their speed when they’re driving,” said the New Zealand Transport Agency. “We usually get to learn from our mistakes, but not when driving – the road is an exception. Even the smallest of mistakes on the road can cost us our life, or someone else’s.”

According to the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety (MIROS), the average number of fatal collisions in Malaysia rounds up to 7,000, with 450,000 accidents every year.

The Road Safety Department of Malaysia has in the past employed either morbid humour or grotesque photographs on billboards to ‘scare’ drivers into practicing safe driving. More so during festive seasons where hordes of drivers take to the road to balik kampung.

Perhaps the JKJR ought to take a few pointers from the Kiwis this year.
