Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has officially launched the Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX) which aims to maintain law and order, and safeguard Singapore with the use of science and technology. HTX is a statutory board under Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and was formed to develop science and technology capabilities and enhance the Home Team’s ability to address emerging threats and evolving challenges on the security landscape.

According to PM Lee's Facebook post, "HT" stands for Home Team and the "X" stands for the agency's ambition to be a force multiplier using technology. The science and tech agency ultimately aims to conduct transformative research in areas such as biometrics, smart sensors, and robotics; to bring together capabilities of the different Home Team departments. Through this, Home Team looks to function better, build partnerships and collaborations with external partners such as research institutions, schools, and start-ups.

The Ministry of Home Affairs appointed Sedgwick Richardson to conceptualise the branding of HTX. Sedgwick Richardson was among the 18 agencies vying for HTX's account on Gebiz. The other agencies include Bonsey Design, Hogarth, Starlight Advertising, Ukulele Brand Consultants and others.

Meanwhile in a CNA article, Lee said at the launch event yesterday that HTX has more flexibility in hiring. developing and rewarding staff. According to CNA, HTX currently has 1,3000 staff and aims to increase its headcount to 2,000. The Singapore's PM also added that the agency looks to attract talents from the science, technology, engineering and math sectors. He explained that the government is working towards building tech capabilities and hiring "high-calibre" officers who can provide technical solutions for operational requirements.
