The International Trade and Industry Ministry in Malaysia is insisting that the Malaysian national car Proton is on par with other premium car brands such as BMW.
According to several local reports such as The Malay Mail Online and The Sun, the International Trade and Industry Ministry told Parliament said the Proton car has what it takes to compete with global brands such as BMW because the newer models have “advanced technology, high quality and performance”.
“Some Proton models even offer features of added value in terms of comfort and safety of passengers,” the ministry said. The ministry then went into detail on the newer modeled cars’ advanced features that helped to improve the standards of Proton vehicles.
The ministry also cited examples of it gaining international recognition from car assessment bodies such as Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP) and Asean NCAP.
“This rating puts the Proton car models on par with other popular car makes like BMW, Volvo, Toyota and Honda,” the ministry said.
